Maintenance foreman in Ohio faces jail time for embezzling more than $60,000 from Strongsville City Schools.

Robert Schwerman, 49, was pleaded guilty to theft in office and tampering with records charges and agreed to repay the school. Schwerman was in charge of the maintenance department and controlled the accounts. Investigators said Schwerman used the school’s maintenance account to outfit his Lorain home with air conditioners, a refrigerator, a generator and even stole construction nails meant for the school. The Lorain County Sheriff’s Department searched Schwerman’s home and found several pieces of stolen property that he bought with district money:   A $20,000 John Deere utility vehicle. A $9,000 lawn mower. A carport and tool shed that once stood on district grounds. Home equipment including a furnace, water heater, and a thermal camera. Schwerman faces up to three years behind bars. His sentencing date was not immediately scheduled.
