The former school IT director pleads guilty to embezzling nearly $90,000.
Sheri Forbregd Gossage from Poplar School District in Montana plead guilty to the wire fraud charge. In July 2017 the school informed Gossage that she needed to check into a rehabilitation center for drug abuse or she would lose her job. One month later district officials became aware of the missing funds.
District’s business manager discovered Gossage had made personal purchases on the district credit card from February 2014 until she was told to check into rehab. The business manager reported finding invoices for items that had “no apparent school use” ordered from Amazon and were never received by the school.
Gossage admitted using the credit card. As it states in court documents she justified the purchases by telling herself that she deserved it because she worked so hard.
In total, the investigation found Gossage had embezzled approximately $89,043 from the school district. The money paid to the account was exclusively from federal funds, according to court documents. She signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors on April 12. Her sentencing has been set for Aug. 16.
