A former Oneida Special School District employee, TN, was charged with theft of property over $60,000.
A former employee Verna Wright used public funds to purchase eight computers, three iPads and eight iPods. In addition, Wright purchased 110 phone cases and decorations for Samsung cellphones and more than 65 Vera Bradley designer bags over a multi-year period through 2017, authorities say. According to a report from the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, Wright was the only employee who reviewed bank statements and invoices for Oneida’s food service office. Which allowed the scheme to continue undetected for several years. Wright was indicted by a Scott County grand jury in August 2017 on theft of property over $60,000 and official misconduct charges. Her arraignment is set for February.
