Former Michigan City schools treasurer in Michigan deposited missing $13k into photo business.
Nicole DeMunck, 35, was charged with theft and official misconduct, both level 6 felonies, court records show. DeMunck worked as a treasurer for the A.K. Smith Center in Michigan City. She was responsible for collecting fees and depositing it with central administration. School officials noticed the missing money in February and contacted state auditors. DeMunck quit her job at the beginning of the audit investigation, according to court records and a school district spokeswoman. A state audit released Oct. 11 cited her for taking $13,000 in school money from fees paid for vocational classes and high school equivalency tests. The report orders her to repay just over $22,000 total, including more than $8,700 toward the audit’s costs. Her court hearing is scheduled on Dec. 3.
