A former PTO treasurer is charged with embezzling funds to buy Christmas gifts for her children. Danielle Masoni, 37, from Lake Geneva, WI worked at Central-Denison Elementary School and Eastview Elementary School.
She has been charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor in connection with more than $9,000 in alleged thefts. Masoni linked a PTO bank account to an Amazon online retail account and used PTO funds to purchase video games and other toys.
Prosecutors allege that she faked PTO bank deposits and made unauthorized withdrawals. She also misled colleagues into thinking problems would occur if other PTO leaders had access to the bank accounts.
Masoni allegedly admitted to the thefts. Investigators say: “She was struggling financially and wanted to give her kids a good Christmas.”
Masoni, who no longer is involved with either school PTO, is facing more than 12 years in prison.
