The leader of an alternative school in PA stole $800,000 to upgrade his New Jersey beach house.

David T. Shulick is the former president of Delaware Valley High School Management Corp., designated for at-risk teens. He was convicted on 11 counts of conspiracy, embezzlement, fraud and tax violations.

Schulick’s students were struggling with teen pregnancies, complicated home lives, and learning disabilities. Instead of properly using funds for their education, he spent the money on upgrades to his beach house and $1.1 million, 13-room Gladwyne home.

“He took money specifically allocated for these laudable purposes and spent it selfishly on himself,” U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain said. If convicted of all charges, Shulick faces a substantial term of imprisonment and a fine of up to $3,800,000.
